Art of bedmaking

The word "bed" reminds me of my childhood fairy tales " Princess and the Pea." The Princess got up tired as she felt the pea under the mattress. I as a child was surprised and felt sorry for her. "Good night " is such a welcoming words to all our tired souls. I am sure that you will accept that a Good bed is a heaven on earth.

A beautiful bedroom has a beautiful made bed. The art has travelled from one generation to another. So eventually the bed making has been classified into 3 ways.

1) Traditional method 2) Open sided method 3) Duvet method

What do you need for making a bed ?

1 ) Mattress protector 1 qty

2 ) Bed sheets 3 qty (First Sheet, Second sheet, Third sheet)

3) blanket 1 qty

4) crinckle sheet. (optional)

Steps for making a bed

1. Check the mattress and preferably turn the mattress at the beginning of every season.

2. Place the mattress protector on the mattress .

3. Lay the First sheet on the bed and tuck it on all the sides.

4. Place the second sheet in such a way that the hem of the sheet touches the edge of the head bed. (the second sheet is placed on the wrong side)

5. Lay the blanket (the tag towards the foot end) on the second sheet.

6. Then place the third sheet on the blanket.

7. Make sure all the sheets are laid properly without any lumps.

8. Then fold the sheets of palm length twice in such a way that there is enough space for pillows to be placed.

9. Tuck the sheets on both sides.

10. Foot fold : At the foot end make a pocket fold so that the feet can move easily inside.

A foot fold gives more space that tucking the sheets as hospital corner.

How do you do a foot fold ?

The sheets are lifted from the edge of the bed and made into a "u" fold. The fold neads a hand press and then tuck the sheets at the corner.

Opensided method:

In an opensided method except for the first sheet the other sheets are not tucked at the corners of the bed. All the sheets are left falling on all the sides. This type of bed making is ususlly suitable for beds that have high legs.

Duvet method:

In this the first sheet is tucked on all the sides. A duvet with a duvet cover is palced elegantly on the bed.

A tight bed gives a good look than a loose bed.
